Do you enjoy singing? Perhaps you’d like to have a go but are not sure? Why not come along to Tideswell Singers, where you will be given a warm welcome?

We are a well-established choir of 30-40 men and women from a wide age range. A few of our members have been with us for over 20 years and we also have new members join us every year. We have open membership and no auditions. Carol, our Musical Director, believes that everyone can sing – and we do! At present we have a few singers ‘on sabbatical’ owing to work/child care commitments and we have vacancies in all voice parts, especially soprano.

Our singers come from a radius of over 20 miles and meet weekly on Wednesday evenings for singing enjoyment in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Our repertoire is wide and includes sacred music, contemporary songs and ‘fun’ pieces. It is not necessary to be able to read music. Musical Director Carol Bowns uses her training as a singing teacher to encourage members of the choir to sing to the best of their ability.

We perform at local events such as Tideswell Food Festival and have established a regular appearance at the Headstone Tunnel on the Monsal Trail to welcome the cyclists on the vintage cycling event L’Eroica Britannia. Each year we sing Christmas carols at Chatsworth – a highlight for many of our members. Our annual ‘Come & Sing’ events attract more than 100 singers and are a fabulous occasion for everyone, singers and audience alike. As well as smaller local concerts, we get involved in ambitious projects such as performing Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms in Sheffield Cathedral as part of the first Classical Sheffield Festival of Music in October 2015.
