WW1 Commemoration

Our best estimate of the number who went to war from the Parish of Tideswell is 501. Of these, 75 did not return alive.

On Monday August 4th. 2014, at 7:00 p.m., at the main entrance to the Parish Church, we will mark the centenary of the mobilization of British forces. This event will centre around a reading of the roll of those who died. It will differ from the Remembrance Day reading of the roll in that we will provide additional biographical details relating to the individuals concerned. In addition, there will be some readings of poetry and prose relating to the War and there will be contributions from members of Tideswell Band and the bellringers.

Although we are holding the ceremony in the churchyard, this is for practical rather than denominational reasons. We hope you will consider attending the event and that our commemorative effort is appropriate to those who left this part of Derbyshire never to return.
