There have been 3 League games since the last issue. On 13 August Tideswell hosted Hathersage 2nds, who were second in the League and heading for promotion. Hathersage batted first and knocked up a fairly modest 175-8 on a batting wicket. Peter Burnyeat took 4-36. Tideswell’s reply fell well short at 69 all out. James Isaac opened for Tideswell, because he had to leaveearly, and made a third of their runs!

On 23 July TCC lost at home to Sheffield Collegiate (Joe Root’s original club). Tideswell decided to bat first, but the best they could manage was 92 all out, Ian Hoverd top scoring with 18. This never looked likebeing enough, although the Collegiate side were 8 wickets down when theyfinally hit the winning runs (Greg Taylor 3-26, Peter Burnyeat 3-11).

Between these 2 matches, Tideswell visited Baslow to playtheir 2nds. Again it was TCC’s choice to bat first, and this time George Brown(53) and Greg Taylor (23*) combined to boost the score to 138-7 – a score Baslow’syoung team failed to get close to, subsiding to 67 all out. Greg Taylor’s 4-7from 8 overs was the best set of figures, although Peter Burnyeat with 3-16 and Dan Shirt (3-21) also contributed.   As a result, TCC are currently 5th in League Div.5, just 2 points behind Hollinsend Methodists 3rds. The captain will not thank me for mentioning that TCC were fined 2 points for late delivery of a match result to the League, but in his defence he was enjoying a post-match beer atthe time.

On 27 August we welcome League-leaders Sheffield Superkings, then the season ends with a visit to Hollinsend Methodists.
