The cricket season started for TCC in late April with a friendly v Youlgreave Lodge, who are also in Yorkshire & Derbyshire Div. 5 this season. Youlgreave ran out winners, and are also riding high in Div. 5 at the time of writing.

Tideswell’s first two league fixtures had to be cancelled due to the weather. One of these would have been against Youlgreave, at Tideswell. The next two, v Hundall 2nds and Sheffield Collegiate 2nds, resulted in fairly heavy defeats for our lads, chiefly owing to an inability to score nearly enough runs.

Meanwhile the friendly season has continued with a match on Hathersage’s ground against Hope Valley, which brought Tideswell’s first win of 2014. It was close, though, and owed a great deal to Dan Shirt’s 49, and then to the resistance of the last pair, who came together with 18 still required and amazed themselves and everyone else by slowly amassing these.

Coach Stuart Scoffins has expanded his coaching this season to two sessions. As last year, a group of 8-11 year olds will be getting coaching after school on a Thursday, followed by a slightly older group at about 5pm.

We need players of all ages to bolster the team, both this season and in the future. If you fancy a game, please do get in touch.
