November 1918: Safe Home

June 20, 2018 | Filed under: 2018, July 2018

An exciting creative community project is happening this November and we are looking for volunteers to take part.
Working towards a performance at Litton Church on Saturday 3rd November, a unique piece will be created to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War.

Carol Bowns and Ceri Royles will work together with local people to devise the evening, intended to be a reflective look at our need and understanding of peace and safety.

“Safe home,” words that many young people heard from friends and family as they set off for the trenches, will comprise singing and movement. Litton Church will be filled with music and song from The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace by Carl Jenkins with wordless dramatisation providing a moving and visual landscape.

Carol, who leads Tideswell Singers, has worked for many years with singers of all ages and abilities, awakening the emotional effect that music can bring to singers and audience. Ceri (Tideswell Community Players) is an experienced community movement specialist, formerly freelance with Derby Dance Centre, developing people’s physical creativity, confidence and expression.

The piece created will examine what peace feels like and what it means to us today: Sometimes big ideas are best expressed when we use no words at all.

Please make contact now if you would like to be involved. Contact Carol on 07748 161120 or Ceri on 07976910887 All ages and abilities welcome.
