‘To be or not to be’ at Tideswell Cinema, upstairs at the George Inn, for an operatic premiere of Hamlet?

Brett Dean’s brand new opera, based on one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies, comes live from Glyndebourne on Thur July 6 at 6pm.

Later in the month we have a more modern epic, live from the National Theatre (where it has sold out) – Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize-winning two-part play, Angels in America.

The live screening of Part 1: Millennium Approaches, is on Thur July 20 at 7pm, while Part 2: Perestroika, is a week later on Thur July 27 at 7pm.

The play focuses on the 1980s’ AIDS crisis as New Yorkers grapple with life, death, love, sex, heaven and hell in an atmosphere much more conservative than it is now. It’s directed by Marianne Elliott, whose previous successes include War Horse and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.

In between we have lighter fare: Andre Rieu and his 60-piece Johann Strauss Orchestra mark their 30th anniversary with a special concert in his hometown of Maastricht. Gowns and tuxedos are optional for this easy-listening classical celebration on Sunday July 23 at 3pm.

And on Thur Aug 3 at 6pm we have another Glyndebourne treat: Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito.

Glyndebourne operas are £15 (£12.50 concessions). Angels in America is £10 for each part (£7.50 for under-19s). Andre Rieu is £15 (no concessions).

Bookings are essential through tideswellcinema@gmail.com or 07941 178863.

All screenings are upstairs at the George Inn, where pre-cinema meals may be booked on 01298 872840.
