October brings a harvest of theatrical treats for audiences at Tideswell Cinema Live. On Wed Oct 12 at 7pm we present King Lear, live from the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford, with Sir Anthony Sher in the lead role as the tragic king who divides his kingdom between his daughters, going mad as he deals with the consequences. The Daily Telegraph critic said: “Sher’s monumental King Lear is a crowning achievement in his career… Mightily impressive.”

On Mon Oct 17 at 6.30pm we can revel in Mozart’s classic opera Cosi Fan Tutte, live from the Royal Opera House. This quirky comedy, in which two men woo each other’s lovers for a bet, is given a lively and imaginative update by a cast of rising stars conducted by Semyon Bychkov.

On Thur Oct 27 at 7pm we have The Entertainer, live from the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company at the Garrick, London. John Osborneʼs modern classic, set in the 1940s, conjures the seedy glamour of the old music halls for an explosive examination of public masks and private torment. Kenneth Branagh takes the lead role of Archie Rice, treading in the footsteps of Sir Laurence Olivier.

A quick peek further forward, on Wed Nov 2 at 7.15pm, look out for Anastasia live from the Royal Ballet. The plays are £10 (£7.50 for under-19s), opera and ballet £15 (£12.50 concessions).
