TIDESWELL CINEMA We are putting on an extra film this season – a film that comes highly recommended, and which received three Oscar nominations in February, including Best Film. It is ‘Brooklyn’, and will be shown at 7.30pm on Thursday 26th May in the George. All are welcome to come along (Guest members entry £4). It tells the profoundly moving story of Ellis Lacey, a young Irish immigrant navigating her way through 1950s Brooklyn. Initial homesickness is swept away when she falls in love, and soon she must choose between two countries and two loves. Saoirse Ronan’s performance as Ellis is described as ‘spectacular’, and the film as ‘impeccable, romantic and realistic’ (Rotten Tomatoes). When premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, it received a standing ovation. Before we screen ‘Brooklyn’, we are showing a short film made by Bakewell’s Village Aid, a local group that supports projects in Africa.
