And so our bumper 2014/2015 film season draws to a close! This month’s choice will be shown on Thursday 28th May, and is the 2007 American epic drama ‘There Will Be Blood’. Widely regarded as one of the best films of the 2000s, it tells the story of a silver miner-turned-oilman on a ruthless quest for wealth during Southern California’s oilboom in the late nineteenth early twentieth century. Winner of two Oscars, and nominated for many more, it stars Daniel Day-Lewis. The Guardian FilmBlog describes it as a ‘strange and disquieting masterwork that shows us the past, present and terrifying future of our dysfunctional dependence on oil’. It will be shown at 7.30pm in the George Inn, and and all are welcome to join us as guests for the evening.

We have an extra treat for film lovers – on Tuesday 12th May we have decided to screen the 2015 Oscar winning ‘The Imitation Game’, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Alan Turing, who with his brilliant team strived to crack the enigma code during the Second World War – a ‘nailbiting race against time’. This is at 7.30pm in the George, free to members, but open to guests for.
