Two great concerts coming up, with more events to follow

Tideswell Band – Friday 18 September 2015, 7.30pm

A full concert by our local band – if you haven’t heard them recently, come and support them – you will hear music from musicals, contemporary brass, and pop, amongst others.

There has been a village band in Tideswell for over 120 years, as its believed the band was formed in 1886. The first photos of the band date from around 1891 which show the band taking part in the annual village carnival parade – an event that continues to the present day on the last Saturday of June.

The band has a big part to play in such events as the Remembrance Day service, Summer Carnival and Wakes Week, Santa’s Parade, the Bonfire night celebrations, and numerous concerts in and around the parish villages and beyond.

As you will know, the recent fire resulted in heavy losses with regard to instruments, music and uniforms. Please come and support the band at this concert, which will be their first full concert since the fire.

The band welcomes anyone who would like to come and join them. Contact Simon Lewis on 07762 797595 or Libs Slattery on 07748 987503 for more information. We are also delighted to renew their relationship with Tideswell Church, where we have recorded (with Cressbrook and Bakewell Bands) our Christmas CD.

CHRISTOPHER ELLIS , Concert Pianist – Saturday 19 September 2015, 7.30pm

Having had his work praised by Vladimir Ashkenazy at an early age for a performance of Prokofiev’s fifth piano concerto, Christopher Ellis has made his name for his precise mastery of the piano repertoire, ‘breath-taking’ performances and ‘unbelievable technical skill’. Since graduating from the Royal Academy of Music with honours, Christopher has engaged audiences across Europe with his amazing passion for the piano repertoire.

At 15, Christopher made his Royal Festival Hall début performing Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the Ernest Reid Symphony Orchestra. More recently, he has performed the great concertos of Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Grieg and Rachmaninov, all of which have been received with great enthusiasm by capacity audiences. Christopher’s competition wins include “Les Recontres Internationals des Jeunes Pianistes”, the Musica Aeterna International Competition and the Royal Overseas League.

We are delighted to welcome him here, to Tideswell Arts Festival for a concert featuring a wide range of his repertoire, including many well-known and popular pieces.

Christopher is also Principal Accompanist & Assistant Director of Music for Tideswell Male Voice Choir

Concerts are held in St John the Baptist Church, Tideswell. Tickets are £5.00 and available on the door or in advance (advisable) from Peak Volumes, next door to Tideswell Post Office. Refreshments will be served at all events.
