Surgery Newsletter – Winter 2017

Parents of teenagers who have recently received letters from the school immunisation service PLEASE NOTE your child may have already had their diphtheria, tetanus and polio booster. However they will still require a Meningitis ACW & Y vaccination which is being provided through the school NOT the GP surgery

There is still time to have your flu vaccination – please contact the surgery for an appointment. Patients who normally have their injection at home please ring the surgery to ask the District Nurse to come.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS ?

Could patients please keep the surgery updated with changes of address, email and phone numbers (especially mobile numbers).

MEDICAL MISUNDERSTANDINGS

Colic     –    a sheepdog                                Enema    –   not a friend

Fester    –    quicker than someone else          Dilate      –    to live long

Tablet    –   a small table                                Impotent  – distinguished

Just a reminder that annual reviews will now take place once a year, in your birthday month. This will ensure that you will only get one letter instead of several throughout the year

CARING FOR CARERS

Blythe House Hospice carers’ group provides a safe relaxed environment where you can share problems, concerns or experiences with others in a similar situation. Each session includes a speaker covering practical issues such as financial advice and welfare rights, spiritual and emotional support, symptom management, employment rights and much more. We meet in the lounge of Blythe House Hospice on the second Tuesday of the month, 5-7pm.

There is no need to book, just drop in.

If you are going abroad and need vaccinations please check on the ‘fitfortravel ‘website. You then need to collect the travel assessment forms from the surgery, fill them in, give them back to us and make an appointment with the practice nurse as soon as possible. Remember some vaccinations need to be done over a few weeks for maximum immunity.

Clinics are very busy with free appointments being few & far between. If you have booked an appointment which you no longer need please let the surgery know as soon as possible so that it can be offered to another patient.

After the trial of a shorter open surgery we have now decided to revert back to having open surgery for a full hour from 10am to 11am daily. Patients may have to wait to be seen BUT you will be seen as long as you are in the surgery before 11am.  Tideswell is the only surgery in the area to offer daily open surgery. Although you may have to wait a while, you will see a doctor that day. We are pleased to be able to offer this service to our patients
