Summer In The Garden

OUR GREENHOUSE The greenhouse frame is now up thanks to Henry and Rob, the next step is to build some raised beds inside the greenhouse to make most use of the area, and then the glass can go in. We managed to take it down without breaking one pane so let’s hope we can re-glaze it without any breakages. So a big thank you to Markovitz for donating the materials to build the base, everyone who gave a donation to the garden at the Food Festival and Tideswell Community Association for making a generous donation which all went towards allowing us to get a professional base laid. It makes it a truly community project.

MUSHROOMS Way back in January we drilled holes in oak logs for the mushroom plugs and then kept in a dark cellar for 6 months for the white mushroom mycelium to grow. It’s now visible on the logs so they are in the garden under the bridge. All we can do now is watch and wait for the next stage, which hopefully should be mushrooms!

USING THE PRODUCE On 20 August it was the Tideswell Luncheon Club held in St John’s Institute – we were delighted to supply lots of lovely vegetables straight from the garden – beetroot and onions to make a beetroot bake, curly kale and runner beans. It was all much appreciated with none left over.

ALLOTMENT SHOW On 30 August we will have a stall at the Show and we will hopefully be entering some of our produce. Last year we won 2 first prizes so that will be hard to beat, but we can try. So don’t forget to come to the Fountain Square Church to visit the Show, anytime from 1pm.

If you would like to become involved in any way with the garden please call Maureen (871542) or Judy (872408). And visit Tideswell Kitchen Garden Facebook Page to see how we get on throughout the year.
