Members of High Peak Diabetic Self Help Group met to learn of the dangers of smoking.

“Fag Ash Lil”, and automaton, which inhales and demonstrates the affect on the lungs was booked to come along and shock people into giving up! However… NO SMOKING  means NO SMOKING and the Medical Officer rightly pointed out that the smoking ban in public places included dolls ! So we were deprived of Fag Ash Lil’s company. We were still able to get across the message that people with diabetes are 14 times more likely to suffer from cardio-vascular complaints, as a result of smoking, than the general population.

The next meeting will be the 30th birthday celebration at the Old Hall Hotel, Buxton 6.30pm Monday 17th October. Tickets are £10 each and include buffet and speakers from the group and from Medical Detection Dogs. If you just want to support the group’s work, please book your ticket with Sue Barber 10298 871644 between 9.0am and 6.0pm or email by Oct 1st.
