Midnight Memorial Candles

It has become an annual Christmas tradition to place candles in St John’s Church, in memory of loved ones. These will be lit for the 11.30 p.m. service on Christmas Eve, then left on display to be lit for a second time at the 9.30 a.m. Candlemas   service 2018.

I begin to light the candles at around 11p.m. on Christmas Eve and anyone is welcome come and view them before the service, without any obligation to attend.

Candles cost 50p each. Only ONE name will be allocated to each candle purchased. If you would like to place an order, please enclose the appropriate payment in an envelope bearing your name and clearly indicating the name of the person to be remembered. Their name will be printed on the side of the candle holder.  Post this through my letter box at St Elmo, Sherwood Rd., Tideswell   by Sunday 10th December.

Last year there was a wonderful response and around 200 candles were lit on the South window sills and in the chancel, creating a beautiful and emotive display.

Please note, members of the congregation will be able to place their orders at Sunday services as usual.
