Lunch Club

Churches Together Lunch Club Twice a month, on a Wednesday, you could be tantalised by wonderful smells emanating from St John’s Institute! The Lunch Club teams are in action, preparing food for the older members of our community. I called in a few weeks ago – too late to witness the plates of food, but I was assured it had been delicious. Braised Beef and Yorkshire Pudding had been on the menu, followed by Madeira Cake and Lemon Mousse. The comment “Just like Mary Berry” was quickly followed by “I’d say even better than Mary Berry”!

Up to twenty five people gather, and I was told that the socialising was just as important as the food, and that everything was beautifully presented, with care and love. When I was there, each person had received a small Easter gift along with a clutch of small chocolate eggs. Janet Walker is the new coordinator, and she would be happy to hear from anyone who would like to come along to join the Club. It is open to all residents of a certain age, and if full, there is a waiting list. Lifts can be arranged. Her phone number is 01298 871943. She would also be glad to hear from anyone who would like to join one of the teams, to help every four to six weeks – cooking, clearing, washing up. It is surely a very worthwhile provision in our village.
