Tideswell Cinema is offering a rare opportunity to see Placido Domingo in the title role in Verdi’s opera Nabucco. Described by many as a masterpiece, Nabucco contains some of the greatest choral music ever written, along with wonderful arias and ensembles. The plot is based on the biblical story of the imprisonment of King Nebuchadnezzar, his struggles, his punishment, and final salvation.

Part of our Live Arts season, the opera will be shown in a live screening from Covent Garden on Wednesday 1st May, at 7.30pm at the George Hotel in Tideswell, tickets priced £12 (concessions £10). Almost a sell out on this date, there will be an Encore screening on Thursday 2nd May at 7.30pm, and tickets are available from Jacqueline Teeney on 01298 872993, or by emailing
From The National Theatre, the screening of This House on Thursday 16th May is a sell out, but the good news is that there will be an Encore on Saturday 18th at 7pm (curtain up at 7.15pm) with all tickets at £10. An acclaimed political comedy, the play is set in 1974: the UK faces economic crisis and a hung Parliament, in a culture hostile to co-operation. The Daily Telegraph writes: “Ferociously witty and permeated by a deep sense of the tragi-comic nature of all political systems.” Tickets available as above. Don’t miss out.
(Coming up later in the summer, on 13th June, is the chance to see Helen Mirren in The Audience. For full details of our programme, visit Tideswell Cinema’s website
