Live at the George

Love is in the air for Tideswell Cinema’s live broadcasts at the George Inn this month.

First you can cuddle up for Love’s Labours Lost, live from the Royal Shakespeare Company, Stratford, on Wed Feb 11 at 7pm. Shakespeare’s sparkling comedy is given a fresh perspective by being set in the summer of 1914, with the lovers blithely unaware of war clouds looming.

The same cast will reappear in Love’s Labours Won (usually known as Much Ado About Nothing), live from the RSC on Wed March 4 at 7pm. Set in 1918, the soldiers return from the trenches to their lovers – conflict giving way to peace and parties.

In between, go for serious romance on Valentine’s Day, Sat Feb 14, when we present the Broadway staging of Romeo and Juliet, starring Orlando Bloom (Legolas in Lord of the Rings) and American actress Condola Rashad. Starting at 8pm, why not combine it with a romantic pre-cinema meal at the George?

Opera lovers are not forgotten – live from the Royal Opera House on Tue Feb 24 at 7.15pm we present Der Fliegende Holländer (The Flying Dutchman), starring the acclaimed bass-baritone Bryn Terfel. Wagner’s early masterpiece about lives and loves gone wrong is largely set on the rolling metal hull of the Dutchman’s phantom ship.

Plays are £10, opera £15 (£12.50 concessions). Book through or 01298 872993. Cheques (to Tideswell Cinema) may be left at Tideswell Stores or posted to Tideswell Cinema, c/o 1 Manchester Rd, Tideswell, SK17 8LL. Please write name/date of production on back of cheque. More information on

All performances are upstairs at The George Inn – you can book pre-cinema meals direct on 01298 871382.
