Litton Parish matters

The Litton Remembrance weekend on 11-13 November was a great success and the council extend a big thank you to all those people who contributed. The council also wish to thank Mike Renger for his outstanding leadership and co-ordination.

The parish council’s particular responsibility was the design and installation of new Memorial Playing Field gates which now provide a public memorial to the men of Litton who fell during the Great War. The council thank David Gratton, Mark Weston and Andrew Weston for giving their time to install the gates.

Residents may be aware that BT are proposing to remove the public telephone kiosks in Litton and Litton Mill. The council has objected strongly to these proposals because the mobile coverage in the area is patchy. If we are unsuccessful then the council intend to purchase them (they cost £1-00) and make them available for community use. It has already done this in Cressbrook where the community has taken on the maintenance of the kiosk and use it as the location for a public defibrillator.

The council has purchased Christmas trees for Litton Mill, Cressbrook and Litton. Last year they were considered to be good and so the trees which have been ordered are the same size and from the same supplier as last year. They will arrive in early December and no doubt will look as good as ever once local residents have decorated them and put up lights.

The Parish Council wish all residents a happy Christmas and a joyful New Year.

John Evans (Vice-chair)
