Litton Concerts

On the 7th July the second in the Litton Concert Series takes place in its idyllic village setting. This series combines the performance of the finest music of the greatest world composers with practical fund-raising for charitable causes. As anyone who has been to the concerts there before will know, Litton Church itself has an unusually fine acoustic, which enhances musical performances and enables it to create a very special and intimate experience of the works. It is particularly pleasing, therefore, that all the profits from tonight’s concert, after musicians’ expenses have been paid, will be going to the Church’s own fund for the maintenance of its unique and beautiful building.

The programme on this occasion will consist of works for cello and piano from two of Germany’s greatest composers.  Johann Sebastian Bach, and Ludwig Van Beethoven.  It will feature performances of Bach’s Cello Suite No.3 in C Major, Beethoven’s Cello Sonata No.2, and Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No.1.

Each of these works is of course amongst the greatest of its time, and is a rightly established favourite with performers and audiences alike.

The concert is presented by the Series artistic director cellist Tom Collingwood, and Tom is pleased to welcome back the Lithuanian pianist, Justas Šervenikas, to join him for this programme.

Alongside raising funds for charity, Litton Concert Series looks to offer opportunities for young talented musicians to perform alongside professional artists to assist with their development, and on this occasion we are delighted to invite back young violinist Ben from the local village school to perform for us.

Litton Concert Series would like to thank all of those involved in the church and community for their wonderful ongoing support, and we hope that once again we can all share in a beautiful evening of wonderful music.
