As the Village Voice goes to press, TCC have just one more match to play, having played 32 out of a scheduled 44 games this summer. This will be our 5th match against Youlgreave this year, with the score 3-1 to Tideswell at the moment.

As predicted in the last issue, TCC finished 3rd in the Yorkshire & Derbyshire 6th Division. The last 2 League matches saw a home win v Sheffield Transport 2nds (5 wickets to Dan Shirt) and then an incomplete defeat to Norton Woodseats in Graves Park, Sheffield. This means Tideswell didn’t match Norton’s score (in fact they finished only 15 short) but weren’t all out, and it also means Norton finished 2nd in the League, although they would have done that even if they’d lost.

After this game, a Norton supporter collapsed with a suspected heart attack and was helped by Tideswell players, for which Norton sent a letter of appreciation to the Y&D League which was forwarded on to us.

Despite failing to win promotion at the first attempt, this has been a good season for TCC. Of 15 League games, we won 9, and of the 8 Sunday friendlies, we won 6. The format we have usually been best at, the mid-week 20-over bash, was our least successful, but even there we won 5 of the 9 played and tied another.

We only had to cancel once this summer (in a friendly) for want of players, but it wouldn’t hurt to have a few more to draw on, so if you think you could contribute next year, please do get in touch (via Bob Walkden 871804).
