Derbyshire library users will be able to borrow more eBooks − and they could win a new eReader for either themselves or a friend. The library service is taking part in a pilot scheme to make more eBooks available. This means that eBook borrowers can download more than 1,000 titles which are not available in other areas.

The aim is to carry out research into the impact of eBook lending in public libraries on authors, publishers and on the library service so that a suitable model can then be rolled out nationwide.

The extra eBooks include titles from major publishing houses and prominent authors. These include ‘Bring up the Bodies’, the Booker prize winning novel by Derbyshire born Hilary Mantel, ‘Time to be in Earnest’ by PD James and ‘The Hell of it All’ by Charlie Brooker.

During the pilot year of the eBook scheme anyone who has borrowed an eBook will be entered into a prize draw to win an eReading device.

The eBooks can be borrowed for 21 days after which time they are automatically deleted from the borrower’s mobile device.

This eBook service is open to Derbyshire library members. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works or studies in Derbyshire. For more information about joining the library service or about eBooks please visit www.derbyshire.gov.uk/libraries.
