June is bursting out all over with ballet, opera, drama and children’s theatre among Tideswell Cinema’s live events upstairs at the George.

We start with the Royal Ballet’s mixed programme of The Dream, Symphonic Variations and Marguerite & Armand, all created by the great choreographer Frederick Ashton, on Wed June 7, 7.15pm.

The next night we have Verdi’s operatic masterpiece, La Traviata, based on the true story of Parisian courtesan Violetta (Russian soprano Venera Gimadieva), live from the Glyndebourne Festival on June 8 at 7pm.

For children (and grown-ups) we have the National Theatre’s magical Peter Pan, which received rave reviews when it was recorded in front of a live audience earlier this year. You have two opportunities to see it: Sat June 10 at 2pm or Tue June 13 at 7pm.

Again from National Theatre Live is Salomé, on Thur June 22 at 7pm. The classic biblical tale of the dancing girl who demands the head of John the Baptist is updated by Yael Farber, with the dancing girl encountering a radical in an occupied desert state.

We end this month’s live events with another Verdi opera, Otello, live from the Royal Opera House on Wed June 28 at 7.15pm. German tenor Jonas Kaufman takes the title role in this new production, conducted by Antonio Pappano.

Ballet and opera are £15 (£12.50 concessions). Plays are £10 (£7.50 for under-19s). Bookings essential on or 07941 178863.
